  • Belmead Stables and Riding Club is located on the property of the beautiful Belmead Plantation overlooking the James River, 5000 Cartersville Road.  The riding club enjoys 22 miles of trails from sun up to sundown 7 days a week.  They have 24 stalls for boarding and offer pasture boarding as well.  598-4907.

  • The Garland Farm is home to nationally acclaimed professional horse trainer, Tommy Garland.  They specialize in horse training with an indoor arena and outdoor riding ring.  They also breed and sell and are located at 915 Dorset Road.  598-3657.  
  • Heatherwood Stables is located at 4206 Michaux Grant Road.  They offer full board for all breeds and disciplines and an outdoor arena on 25 acres of land.  598-4955.
  • Hertzler Farm & Feed, Inc. is located at 3209 Buckingham Road.  They sell everything under the sun for farm, animal, and lawn care.  598-4021.

Hunter's Ridge Equestrian Center, located at 2418 Mill Road, offers individual instruction on hunter eventing and therapeutic riding.  393-1459.  
  • Level Green Riding School located at 3350 John Tree Hill Road has been operating as a riding and boarding barn for 25 years.  They offer English riding lessons for children and adults (private, group, and trail rides).  Their services include boarding, leasing, training and sales.  Specializing in hunter and equitation, they also offer dressage, eventing, jumper, and recreational riding on 200 acres of woods, pasture, and riding trails.  794-8463.  
  • Levremont is a 48 acre farm with 25 acres of pasture located on Ballsville Road.  They have 23 stalls for boarding.  They also offer lessons from beginner to the more experienced riders to include every aspect of managing a horse.  They can provide the horses, have horses for lease or users may bring their own horse.  They have an ample turnout and a lit riding ring.  Quality horses are offered for sale and they take horses on consignment.  Training is offered from starting young horses to fine tuning show horses.  375-9814.

  • Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center is dedicated to servicing the mental, physical, and emotional challenges for the special needs of Veterans in Central Virginia through equestrian activities.  They provide a program of recreational riding and horsemanship, at no charge to the Veterans and their families, which will increase the quality of life for the participants.  357-9524.  6137 Old Buckingham Road.

  • Mesa Vista Therapeutics located at 2650 Judes Ferry Road specializes in therapeutic riding programs for physically and mentally challenged individuals.  They offer horse training, leasing, and group functions.  They breed horses and miniature ponies.  On 20 acres of land with miles of riding trails, Mesa Vista is also home to the Bits ‘N’ Spurs 4H Horse Club.  598-1543.

  • Meteor Hill Welsh located at 3341 Medway Lane is a small breeding farm specializing in Welsh Mountain ponies.  They also have some ponies for sale.  Meteor Hill is also home to the Foal ‘N’ Around 4H club.  794-7131.

  • Oakdale Farm is located at 5719 Cartersville Road.  From beginner to advanced, this full service equestrian center offers dressage clinics, cross country jumping, indoor and outdoor rings, 130 acres of horse trails, and a water and bank training complex.  Full and pasture boarding with full-time on site staff.  Training for problem horses also available.  375-3007.

  • Passage International Riding Academy is located at 1956 Mill Quarter Road.  They are a member of the Therapeutic Riding Association of Virginia which fosters therapeutic horsemanship for people with disabilities.  They also breed, train, and sell horses.  598-8955.
  • Reedwind Farm is located at 1655 Dorset Road.  They offer stall and pasture boarding, training in a lighted riding arena or round pen, and 50 acres of open fields to ride.  598-6270.

    Powhatan Celebration of the Horse

    Farm Bureau and Powhatan Cooperative Extension are proud to be a part of this collaborative project with the Powhatan 4-H and FFA youth organizations. In addition to being a 4-H Qualifying horse show, the horse show portion of the event is open to adult participants too. This event was born out of the need to raise funds to support the 4-H and FFA youth organizations and their many activities, educational opportunities and competitions throughout the year. There was also a strong desire to bring awareness to the large equine community in Powhatan County. In its third year, the event has been expanded to include livestock and exhibits highlighting the overall impact of agriculture in the county.   More info...
